In many organizations large and small, patient data reside on desktops, in local spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents. On the one hand, these practices are dangerous because of the potential for security breaches within and without the organization. Information may be changed arbitrarily, and access to it cannot be adequately controlled. On the other hand, they are dangerous because local machines are not always backed up properly, and crucial medical data can be irretrievably lost. Both of these hazards can have serious liability consequences for your organization.
AmCare solves both problems by moving sensitive patient information into a secure, password-protected, centralized Oracle database that is constantly being backed up and is always available.
AmCare audit trails: Know who did what, when.
Oracle provides table-level, user-level, and row-level security. Access to applications and read-write functions can be restricted to certain users only. Significant changes to the AmCare database are audited with datestamps and usernames. The charts of high-security patients can be entered only by administrators and by their own providers, and every entry into a chart is logged. Outcomes report requests are logged. Sensitive information such as lab results and drug dosages is recorded with datestamps and usernames, and it cannot be modified through AmCare Client Suite once it is entered.
